Music Awards Oman followed on from the highly successful Young Musicians of Muscat competition which had been held in Oman for five years.

Music Awards Oman (abbreviated as MAO) offers Junior and Senior music scholarships of up to RO 500 per year tenable for three years. The scholarships can be used towards music lessons, the purchase of books and sheet music, ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) examination fees and even music courses.

The Junior scholarship is open to musicians under 12 years of age who have reached the equivalent standard of ABRSM Grade 3. The Senior scholarship is open to musicians who are over 12 years of age and under 15 and have attained a musical level equivalent to ABRSM Grade 5. All ages are to be calculated on the 1st January 2009.

Scholarships will be awarded based upon musical merit and will be decided at a special concert to be held on Wednesday 11th February 2009 at the American-British Academy. Entrants will be invited to perform one piece on their chosen instrument of up to 3 minutes duration for Junior scholarship and up to 5 minutes duration for the Senior scholarship. Entry is free.
