Scholarship Regulations for MAO

  1. Entry to Music Awards Oman 2009 (herein referred to as MAO ) is open to students above the age of 7 years resident in Oman who attend either a Government or Private School or who are home schooled. Students and relatives of the judges are ineligible for entry.
  2. For the Junior scholarship entrants need to have reached a minimum musical standard equivalent to Grade 3 of The Associated Board of The Royal Schools of Music and be aged between 7 years and 11 years 364 days. All ages to be calculated on Thursday 1st January 2009.
  3. For the Senior scholarship entrants need to have reached a minimum musical standard equivalent to Grade 5 of The Associated Board of The Royal Schools of Music and be aged between 12 years and 14 years 364 days. All ages to be calculated on Thursday 1st January 2009
  4. All entrants are required to complete an official MAO registration form and, at the time of submission of the registration form, to supply a photocopy of the music to be performed and a copy of their passport for age verification purposes. Entrants may offer one piece only in the concert lasting a maximum of three minutes for the Junior division and five minutes for the Senior division.
  5. Entrants who require the services of an accompanist are asked to make their own arrangements, to submit the name of their accompanist at the time of entry and to ensure that their accompanist is available for the concert which will be held on Wednesday 11th February 2009. Entrants may use the services of a page turner but again it is their responsibility to arrange this well in advance. Subject to entrant numbers it may be necessary to hold preliminary concerts.
  6. For those entrants performing on an electronic keyboard, on the organ or on percussion please note that you will have to supply your own instruments. Singers should perform from memory.
  7. Dress Code: The minimum requirement for the concert is a dress or skirt/top for girls and a long-sleeved shirt and tie with long trousers for boys. Please remember that presentation is part of the performance and will be taken into consideration.
  8. The musical decisions of the Adjudication panel are final and no appeal will be considered. In the case of any other matters not contained within the regulations the decision of the MAO committee will be final and binding.
  9. Scholarships are tenable for up to three years subject to the following conditions:
    1. Scholarship recipients must continue their residency in Oman in order to qualify for the 2nd and 3rd year awards.
    2. It is expected that scholarship recipients will play a full part in the musical life of the community and may be required to perform at public concerts as requested by the Director and committee of MAO.
    3. Renewal of the 2nd and 3rd year awards will be based upon satisfactory progress and will be assessed periodically.
  10. MAO scholarship payments will be made upon production of receipted invoices which must appertain to the study of music ie. music lessons, the purchase of music books and sheet music, ABRSM music examination fees and musical accessories.
